Subject Description

The Year 7 course is designed as a basic introduction to the Italian language, although it caters for the beginner as well as for the student who has had some prior study of the language.

This course is designed to introduce basic grammar concepts including the two most common verbs: essere and avere, nouns, gender, adjectives and negative sentences; vocabulary and expressions dealing with: greetings, numbers, days, months, colours and classroom words. An awareness and appreciation of the cultural aspect of Italian will be studied through an assignment. Focus will be on the four language areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing.

The learning of a language nurtures reflective, deep and creative thinking in specific ways. It allows students to cultivate culturally distinctive fields of knowledge, and stimulates their awareness of intellectual functioning. At Year 7 the course is designed as a basic introduction to the Italian language, catering for both the beginner and also the student who has had some prior study of the language. An awareness and appreciation of aspects of Italian culture and lifestyle will be studied through classroom activities and research work. Focus is on the four key language areas that of: speaking, listening, reading and writing.
