Learning
Enhancement

At Emmaus College we welcome students of all abilities into our community. Each student comes to the College with different talents and abilities which are able to flourish in a supportive and challenging environment.

Classroom teachers aim to provide a differentiated curriculum for students and our use of the SOLO Taxonomy, which provides a framework to ensure an appropriate balance of surface and deep learning, means that teachers are able to construct a range of assessment tasks to extend able students.

In Mathematics an accelerated program is offered over the four years from Years 7 to 10 which better prepares students for the study of more challenging Mathematics in Years 11 and 12.

The Y9@E program, delivered at the Burwood Campus, offers students a number of opportunities to excel. This is particularly the case with the Creating Solutions Investigation which is the culmination of the City Experience Program.

In the final years of secondary school we are able to offer a wide range of individual study choices including VCE, VCAL and VET programs, which provide for both academic and vocational courses.

As acceleration is proven to be one of the most effective ways to bring out the best in students, all Year 10 students study a VCE Unit as part of their Religious Education Program. Exceptional students are able to apply to undertake two additional VCE subjects in Year 11. A select few students are then able to complete two Unit 3 and 4 studies in Year 11, opening the way for them to undertake extension studies.

Committed students are able to undertake the VCE Extended Investigation subject which enables students to develop, refine and extend knowledge and skills in independent research and carry out an investigation in an area of interest that focuses on a rigorous research question.

We also offer a range of extracurricular activities in which talented and committed students from Year 7 to Year 12 are invited to participate. These activities extend students’ critical, creative, communication and problem solving skills across a range of curriculum and cross curriculum areas.
